Burnham on Crouch u3a
Joining Burnham-on-Crouch u3a is a great way to find and develop new interests and make friends in a relaxed environment. We are a volunteer-led charitable organisation, offering learning and social opportunities to people who are no longer working full-time and who enjoy getting together to share their skills and learn for fun.
Our members believe in life-long learning and we achieve this by forming self-help Interest Groups covering a wide range of topics and activities, together with regular meetings open to all members and usually featuring an invited speaker. We aim for an environment where everyone feels included and has the chance to make new friends and enjoy themselves.
Burnham u3a was formed in 1999, so we have recently celebrated our 25th anniversary. We currently have around 300 members and a wide range of interest groups.
Dengie Hundred Probus Club
The Dengie Hundred Probus Club is for retired and semi-retired professional and business men. Established in 1982, we are a friendly group of retired men who meet monthly to enjoy a good meal, companionship and an interesting talk. We are always looking for new members, so if you are nearing retirement, newly retired, or have been retired for some time, we look forward to hearing from you.
The club meets on the second Thursday of each month in Burnham on Crouch at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.
Members meet for a social gathering in the bar prior to luncheon. After lunch there is a talk. Talks cover a variety of subjects and are often given by members speaking about their careers but can be on any subject. Ladies and non-members are occasionally invited to attend as speakers.
Members’ ladies and guests are invited to join members on three occasions during the year. These occasions are the Club’s Anniversary Luncheon in June, the Annual River Cruise to Fambridge in August, and the Christmas Luncheon in December.
We are also currently looking to re-instate occasional trips to places of interest, mainly by coach, within reasonable distance from Burnham and again wives and partners are welcome to come along on these.
Burnham on Crouch & Dengie Hundred Rotary Club
The Burnham-On-Crouch and Dengie Hundred Rotary Club (the Club) works to help people in need throughout the Dengie and further afield. This work is both direct and practical, and more is achieved indirectly by fund-raising for other local charities. Members combine their collective experience to make this happen. They also find something in it for themselves by doing this and by mixing socially with fellow Rotarians with a similar sense of purpose.
The Club’s reputation has been built on championing good causes for the Dengie for over 45 years.
Chelmsford Art Society
Chelmsford Art Society meet every fortnight from Autumn through to Spring for demonstrations and illustrated talks given by visiting professional artists. Meetings are sociable events where members observe different techniques and practices using various media.
There is an annual critique and opportunities to exhibit at local exhibitions.
New members with a general interest in art, of all standards and abilities, are always welcome – you don’t even have to be a painter – just watch and learn!
Come along as a guest first if you wish to get a taste of what we do.
ARE YOU AN AMATEUR OR PROFESSIONAL ARTIST, OR DO YOU JUST LIKE TO HAVE FUN?
REGARDLESS OF YOUR ABILITY – WHY NOT JOIN US?
Jenny Newman – Artist
I have been painting for the last 15 years. I began with Wildlife Art mostly using pastels but over the last few years have moved to Abstract using Acrylic paint which I absolutely love. The colour and mark making just give me such pleasure. I love playing with my materials until I eventually find what makes me happy.
Do I have a style? I’m not sure, I just know that I love the process of producing my work. I love walking in my studio and feeling that thrill when a colour combination just works, or a mark just sings. Painting My Style, My Colours, My Feelings, My Way.
Will I retire? As an artist I find it illogical to retire and don’t see a time when I will not paint. I generally produce around 20 to 30 pictures a year.
If there is a piece of work on the website that you would like to see in reality then please email me.
